A4010 melting: Transport for Bucks issues update
A busy A-road linking West Wycombe and Princes Risborough is melting amid scorching hot temperatures.
The tarmac on the A4010 Bradenham Road, which has thousands of vehicles travelling along it every day, has started to go soft, prompting a warning for drivers to be careful.
One member of the public tried to call Transport for Bucks (TfB) on Monday afternoon but said no one was answering, branding the road surface "dangerous" for drivers.
West Wycombe Parish Council says TfB are "fully aware" of the melting tarmac issue and they are planning to "dust" it three or four times today to make it safer.
When temperatures break 30C for a prolonged period, roads are at risk of starting to melt.
Gritter lorries can be used to spread light dustings of crushed stone instead of the salt theyuse during the colder months to reduce the chances of road surfaces melting.
The crushed stone reportedly soaks up excess tar and helps reflect a larger amount of the sun’s rays.
TfB said: "Our gritters will be out from around 11am on A4010 Bradenham Road in Wycombe to retreat and dust the melting road.
"'Stop & Go' signs will be used to direct and manage traffic. Please expect delays and use alternative routes where possible. Thank you for the patience."
