The heartbroken daughter of a woman who was killed by a 'lunatic' driver after he crashed into a tree has spoken of her pain at losing her "best friend."

Christopher Mattin, aged 34, has been jailed for 10-and-a-half years after his dangerous driving resulted in the death of his girlfriend, Sarah Jacobs, who was 38 years old.

Mattin, who the judge said was driving like a 'lunatic' and a 'bat out of hell', crashed into a tree after he had been driving at 91mph in a 30mph zone on Stowe Avenue, near Buckingham, in May 2020.

The dangerous driver was sentenced at Aylesbury Crown Court on Friday, and before the judge sent him down, Ms Jacobs' daughter, Ellie, stood up in the court and gave an emotional statement on the impact her mother's death had had on her life.

She said: "My mum was taken from me when I was only 16, I had no warning or time to say goodbye, or to say that I loved her.

"She was not just my mum, she was my best friend.

"She was the only person who I could trust, my whole world came crashing down on top of me and left me completely alone in this world."

Speaking bravely, Ellie told the courtroom how she gave birth to a baby boy just shortly before her mother's death, but she tragically lost him just a few weeks after the crash.

She said: “The day she was taken from me was the worst day of my life, when I heard it was like a little bit of my heart had been torn from my chest.

“Three weeks after losing my mum, I lost my baby boy. It felt like I lost any reason to live.

“I don’t want to live anymore, I have no strength left. A massive part of me is missing.”

She went on to describe how she had recently given birth to a baby girl, and how she was doing her best to carry on while dealing with two tragic losses.

She said: "Losing a parent is something that you will never get over, no matter how old you are but my mum was my best friend, sister and my mum all in one.

“It was always me and her against the world. It is impossible for me to even put into words how much losing my mum has changed not only my life but me as a person, there will always be an empty space in my life where she should have been.

“I still look for her, begging for her to walk through the door, throw her arms around me and tell me everything’s going to be ok.

“She touched the lives of many people, in so many ways, she didn’t deserve for her life to be taken away from her so soon. She will be missed and was loved very much by many people.

“Spread your wings and fly high angel, until we meet again.”
