A leak on a busy village road has reportedly gone unfixed for seven weeks - despite a plea from Thames Water to limit their use during hot spells.
West Wycombe Parish Council said it reported a leak on the A40 near the Pedestal Roundabout seven weeks ago, but water is still "pouring down the drain".
It comes amid a plea from Thames Water for residents to control their water usage and limit consumption around the house where possible because increased demand for water puts strain on their network.
The water company has urged people to take shorter showers, reduce the use of garden hoses and turn off taps when brushing your teeth.
But West Wycombe Parish Council pointed out that water was being wasted for weeks on the main road into the village.
They said after the leak was reported, it was "promptly marked with blue paint but water is still pouring down the drain".
Thames Water said on Twitter that their team confirmed works were finished on June 20 - but West Wycombe Parish Council said they had been "misled", because no attempts had been made to fix the leak.
The water company later confirmed that a network technician is going to visit the site.
Thames Water said they are not currently expecting to introduce restrictions on water use this summer, but urged households to be "responsible".
Andrew Tucker, Water Demand Reduction Manager at Thames Water, said: “During spells of hot weather, water usage can often rocket, with hoses and sprinklers watering gardens and paddling pools filled.
"That makes it even more important to be mindful of water usage to ensure there’s enough to go around for everyone.
“While we’re not currently expecting to introduce restrictions on water use this summer, it’s important that households remain responsible with their usage and help us to limit the pressure on our resources.”
