A Milton Keynes man who tried to get into a house using a stick he found outside was foiled by a doorbell camera.
Jason Smith, 46, tried to get into a house in Tandra, Beanhill, on May 9, picking up a stick he found outside.
The homeowner woke up to find the stick inside their house - and recognising it from outside, checked their doorbell footage to find Smith trying to get inside.
Smith, of Garraways in Coffee Hall, was arrested by police and charged the next day.
He pleaded guilty to attempted burglary at Aylesbury Crown Court on July 7 and was jailed for 12 months.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Yvette Wray, based at Milton Keynes police station, said: “Attempted burglary is a serious offence which not only affects the community but is an intrusive crime to someone’s life.
“I am pleased that Smith has been successfully been brought to justice.
“Within four hours of the suspect being arrested, he had been charged and remanded. This goes to show that Milton Keynes will not tolerate these sorts of crimes.”
