Owners are being warned to keep their dogs on a lead around livestock after police received reports of a dog biting a cow near a Bucks beauty spot.
Witnesses to the distressing incident called police on Sunday (July 10) and told them they saw a dog that was off its lead chasing a herd of cattle near Coombe Hill.
The dog then bit a cow.
Police said they have the details of the dog's owner and the farmer has been made aware of the incident and will be double checking the cows are safe and unharmed.
Thames Valley Police South Buckinghamshire said: "Please keep your dog on a lead around livestock."
Coombe Hill, which is near Wendover and Dunsmore, is a popular spot for walkers and dog-walkers, but owners need to be cautious as there are livestock in the area.
Livestock worrying is when a dog attacks or chases livestock on agricultural land or is at large in a field with sheep, which can result in significant injury or suffering and in the worst cases, death of the animals involved.
This also has devastating consequences for livestock keepers, causing personal distress as well as significant financial costs.
