A woman has been ordered to pay nearly £1,000 for driving at 68mph on a motorway.

Dyann Heward-Mills, aged 49, of Grange Road in Chalfont St Peter, was fined £769 and ordered to pay a further £187 in court costs for the offence.

The VW Golf driver broke a temporary 60mph speed limit on the M1 motorway in Northampton on June 7, 2021, near Junction 16.

Wycombe Magistrates Court also heard how the defendant committed another speeding offence on September 6, 2021, when she was caught travelling at 38mph in a 30mph zone on Moorfield Road in Denham.

At the hearing on June 22, the magistrates fined Heward-Mills £769 for each offence, as well as £187 costs in both cases, leaving her with a total bill of £1,912.

The driver was also given six points on her licence and was due to receive a "totting up" disqualification after accumulating at least 12 points in the past three years.

However, the justices let her off the hook after they heard that she needed to be able to drive as she was the main carer for her ill mother.

Drivers who accumulate 12 or more points in three years can avoid a driving ban if they can demonstrate to the court that exceptional hardship would be caused by the disqualification.
