Speeding vehicles are blighting a High Wycombe road - and Bucks Council says it is trying to "make it safer for all".
Residents have long complained about bad driving on Chairborough Road in the town - particularly speeding drivers in modified cars who have been seen racing up and down.
Now, one fed-up local, who lives in a block of flats along the road, has urged Buckinghamshire Council to do something about it after a stray cat they were looking after was run over and killed by a driver who didn't stop.
They fear that next time it could be a person who is seriously injured or worse.
Complaining on FixMyStreet, they said: "Cars are often speeding in Chairborough Road despite there being two roundabouts.
"Just a few weeks ago, there was a serious accident where a motorcycle clashed into a car to the extent the two vehicles were basically merged together.
"The accident has not taught anything to reckless drivers, apparently. I hear and see car speeding on Chairborough Road every day.
"Besides, there are some cars that speed in Link Road as well - one of the exits of the roundabout which is exactly in front of my entrance. Typically, I always see the same two or three cars speeding here.
"High Wycombe is a town full of families and elderly people. Most houses have their entrance directly on to the road, which means one does not even have the space to even try and save themselves from a speeding car that might hit them."
According to crashmap.co.uk, which collates Department for Transport data on road incidents, there have been at least five crashes on the road in recent years.
In October 2017, there was a four-vehicle crash with one injury and in June 2018 a two-car crash left one person injured.
In 2020, there were three crashes - one in May involving one car and one injury, one in August involving two cars and one injury and one in December involving two cars and one injury.
Buckinghamshire Council's transport chief Cllr Steve Broadbent said they are looking for ways to tackle the blight of racing and bad driving on the road.
He said: “We're aware of the issues of anti-social driving on Chairborough Road and its nearby locations and want to assure residents that we're actively seeking solutions to this problem, so we can make the road safer for all.
"We are engaging with Thames Valley Police and the wider community with the intention of better understanding the issues they face and what can be done to tackle these.”
