HUNDREDS of homes and a school could be built on a former airfield after plans were put forward for a new village.

Developers Ainscough Strategic Land have submitted a proposal to create a ‘new sustainable village’ on the outskirts of Buckinghamshire.

The plans include building 320 homes, a primary school, a community centre, and a transport mobility hub.

The development would be called Upper Wellington and promises to ‘create a 20-minute neighbourhood where resident can find everyday facilities on the doorstep’.

The planning statement said: “The under-utilised brownfield site of the former RAF Cheddington airfield presents an amazing opportunity to establish a modern and sustainable community built around the principles of self-sufficiency, social cohesion, and environmental responsibility.Bucks Free Press:

“In creating a ‘20-minute neighbourhood’, where residents can find everyday facilities on their doorsteps, we hope to give life to a free-standing village that fosters social interaction and reduces the need for unsustainable travel.

“We also believe it is important to preserve and promote the history of the airfield, which is why a number of the site’s former blast shelters would be retained and incorporated into the open green spaces.”

The 320 homes and planned to include affordable homes, support for first-time buyers, and self-build opportunities.

The community centre will include a shop, café, business units, and space for sports classes – plus green spaces.

Plans also include a transport mobility hub including a bus stop, car club, e-bike stations, and car charging points for residents.

Ainscough Strategic Land said the construction process would create 65 full-time jobs a year, and the primary school and community centre will create 55 full-time jobs.

The plans have been submitted to Buckinghamshire Council and Dacorum Borough Council for approval.
