ONE of the heroes of Wycombe Wanderers' successful side of the 1950s has died at the age of 78.
Jimmy Moring played a major role as Sid Cann's team won two Isthmian League titles and the Berks and Bucks Senior Cup three times during the decade.
A cultured wing-half, Moring played a key role in the Blues' run to the Amateur Cup semi-final in 1955 before playing a part in the early stages of their run all the way to Wembley two years later.
A broken arm forced him to miss out on the action at the home of English football, but Moring "never complained" about his misfortune, which is still debated by Blues fans of a certain age to this day.
After retiring from playing, having served the Wanderers for nearly a decade, he became the advertising manager at the Bucks Free Press.
Former colleague John Taylor said: "Jim never did understand how highly he was valued by teammates and opposition alike. That modesty also displayed itself in his professional life.
"Jim was a fine footballer, a hard-working newspaper professional but most importantly a good man. He'll be sadly missed."
Moring, who also played with distinction for Maidenhead United and Oxford City, died on January 24. He was 78.
