EIGHT drivers were stopped by police for using their mobile phones in High Wycombe town centre.
All drivers stopped in Abbey Way, at the junction with Wendover Way, were given a £60 fine and three points on their licence.
However, all were given the option of going on a "Call Divert" course costing £74, cancelling their ticket.
A lorry driver was among the motorists stopped yesterday.
The checks, between 9am and 1pm, also stopped 30 cars stopped because a driver or passenger was not wearing a seatbelt.
They were given a £30 fine but again given the choice of having their ticket cancelled if they attended a seminar that evening, run by DriveTech UK.
Sgt Chris Appleby, Road Safety Sergeant, said: "It is disappointing to see that the important road safety messages are still not getting across to some road users.
"One of the most worrying examples from yesterday was a lorry driver using his mobile phone.
"This is obviously very dangerous and could potentially cause a serious collision.
"I hope this check, and others like it, will re-enforce to these people the importance of wearing a seatbelt and not to drive while using a mobile phone."
