Increased patrols around Wycombe Swan car park after mum finds 'hazardous' needles

High Wycombe mum, Jodie Hill was left "angry" after finding drugs and needles in the car park with her four-year-old son.

Whilst being able to distract him from the "hazardous waste", she admitted she was "worried" about bringing him up in the town.

She said: "We walked straight out of the lift and right in front of us was a needle which I kicked to the side.

"Which is then when I noticed all of the drugs and tools!

"I managed to get him to count the cars and be distracted.

"To be honest I feel these people are offered the help but don’t want to take it and it makes me so angry.

"It is so rough in Wycombe and it’s very sad.

"It worries me to bring my son up in this town with the way it’s heading.

"There needs to be more yellow bins dotted around town, that are changed regularly."

There have been a string of concerning incidents surrounding drugs and paraphernalia in car parks in High Wycombe over the years. 

Residents and business owners were left "frightened and angry" in 2019 when the Priory Road car park was left littered with discarded needles, rubbish and bottles of urine as well as people's belongings. 

And a terrified mother was stabbed with a syringe full of blood that had been left in the toilet roll holder at the toilets in Dovecot car park. 

Sarah Eacott-Broun had to wait a horrifying six months for test results to find out whether she had been infected with any diseases after the incident. 

Steve Broadbent, cabinet member for transport, said: “We take safety in the car parks very seriously and are dispatching a hazardous waste crew to the site.

"We have recently become aware of increased anti-social behaviour in the area.

"To address this, from this week we have increased the frequency of the security patrols around Wycombe Swan car park.

“We want to thank the resident for raising this particular issue and would advise all residents to be careful if they come across litter of this kind and to report it to us via FixMyStreet www.buckinghamshire.gov.uk/fixmystreet, or directly to the police by calling 101 or reporting it online. In an emergency dial 999.

"Our community safety teams work closely with the police, drug support services and other partners to assist and support those affected by addiction issues and drug usage.”
