SCHOOLCHILDREN from Thame had the chance to discuss their concerns for the community last week, in a special event.

The neighbourhood policing team for Thame, members of the Neighbourhood Action Group and representatives from South Oxfordshire District Council joined with year eight pupils from Lord William's Lower School in Oxford Road to talk over any concerns they might have in their area.

PC Abi Derbyshire, from Thame neighbourhood policing team said: "This was a social enterprise day with year eight pupils where they identified the problems within their own communities and did problem solving presentations to help come up with some solutions. As well as police there were representatives from other agencies present including youth services, Crown Prosecution Service, local councillors, and members of the police authority."

The event came about after community representatives decided to learn more about the opinions of young people in and around Thame. The visitors joined pupils in their tutor groups, where they tackled a variety of issues and problems affecting the community.

The students ended the day with presentations on these issues, and members of the council and police all agreed to take action on the problems afterwards.

PC Derbyshire said: "I am really pleased with the success of the day and I'm glad that the students found the day enjoyable. We are keen to build and maintain relationships with all people from the community."
