ROAD closures over several months to tackle flooding problems have sparked outrage.

Locals have bit back at Bucks councillors over plans to close junctions in Chesham from June 27 to September 16 to reduce the risk of flooding to homes.

Chess Valley councillors Joseph Baum, Emily Culverhouse and Gareth Williams apologised for the inconvenience while the junction of Missenden Road, Church Street, Pednormead End and Wey Lane are closed for improvement.

But locals Tania Coker, Jo Kimber, and Alistair Angus vented their frustrations online.

Jo said the scheme is “ridiculous” because it will double her journey time and fuel costs getting her children to school. She also questioned how bins would be collected.

Tania threatened to involve the media after suffering a similar ordeal in the past.

Whereas Alistair was stunned at the amount of time the works will take, asking if it was being done with a “spade and wheelbarrow”.

“This is ridiculous, yet again,” wrote Jo. “I live one side of where it will be closed and have to get my children to school the other side, increasing my journey time and fuel costs to more than twice the time and money.

“And […] how will the bins be collected? Council do not consider how people’s lives are affected. My children will now be leaving the house at a ridiculous time in the morning just to get to school.”

“This is an absolute joke,” wrote Tania. “Four months last time. Three months this time.

“I, for one, will not tolerate this again. Will take photos and get papers involved.”

“Twelve weeks? Have they only got one spade and wheelbarrow?” wrote Alistair.

“Worth noting that from June 27 to September 16 the junction of Missenden Road, Church Street, Pednormead End and Wey Lane will unfortunately be closed as work is continued on the culvert,” wrote the Chess Valley councillors.

“Pedestrian access will be available. This is needed to reduce the risk of flooding to the properties in the area.

“The council have set up an email address for those who have questions about the project. We are sorry for the inconvenience this will undoubtedly cause.”
