A Chalfont community library celebrated its 10-year-journey as a local hub.
Chalfont St Peter Community Library opened officially in January 2012, and has been at the heart of the community ever since.
The community space reopened as soon as possible after Covid pandemic restrictions were lifted.
The library spokesperson said: “Little did some of those people who turned up to a meeting held by local councillor John Hatton in 2011 think that they would still be volunteers in the library in 2022.”
Out of the 50 original volunteers, 22 are still active, chair of the library Sue Woodrow said.
Over the years, the much-loved community library has hosted a school’s writing competition, and a tea and cake party while customers selected their books, and a book launch by local author Rachel Sherfield together with a live gecko to promote her children’s book Sidney the gecko who didn’t like the sun.
It happened! My book launch of ‘Sidney (the gecko that didn’t like the sun!)’. Thank you to the Chalfont St Peter Community Library for hosting my event and One World Animals for bringing their beautiful geckos! 🦎 #sidneythegecko pic.twitter.com/Bavsy3a2zJ
