A film crew was spotted in Aylesbury one day before this year’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations.
Numerous vans and lorries containing expensive equipment were seen in the Waterside North Car Park on the morning and afternoon of Wednesday, June 1.
Speaking to one of the crew members on the same day, a drama focusing on the 1986 Brink’s-Mat robbery is being shot in the town, with the show due to be aired this autumn on BBC One.
Called, ‘The Gold’, the programme is to star Downtown Abbey actor Hugh Bonneville, Dunkirk’s Jack Lowden, Dominic Cooper from Mamma Mia, and Charlotte Spencer, who has made appearances in Line of Duty and Ted Lasso.
The show will look at how six armed men broke into the Brink’s-Mat security depot near Heathrow Airport, and inadvertently stumbled across gold bullion worth £26m 36 years ago.
At the time, it was the largest theft ever documented in the world.
Ben Farrell, Executive Producer, says: “Tannadice Pictures are excited to be working on their debut drama with such an incredible ensemble cast alongside the BBC and Paramount+ to tell, for the first time, the full, immersive, thrilling story of the Brink’s-Mat gold crime.”
Kate Laffey, Co-Managing Director of VIS, a division of Paramount, added: “The Gold is a captivating story of one of the most remarkable events in British Criminal history, and we look forward to bringing this story to life for Paramount+ and BBC audiences around the world.”
