Concerns have been raised about noise, traffic, and boozing as the result of a community event.
Market Square Group Ltd in Peterborough has applied to Bucks Council for a new premises licence to host Marlow Moves at Higginson Park from June 18.
Marlow Moves is a “community focused event” over two days, featuring a range of food and craft stalls, and activities for children, a report states.
Between the hours of 9am-10pm, the licence will allow alcohol sales, music, and performances.
Maximum capacity is 4,999 people, including staff.
Locals raised concerns about noise, antisocial behaviour and alcohol consumption, and traffic.
“I have to object in the most strenuous terms,” said Robin Cooper. “With the exponentially growing number of events, there has also been a tremendous increase in noise and air pollution.
“I have had significant difficulties sleeping when excessively noisy events are held in the park, which has been detrimental to my health.
“Over the last almost 30 years in which I have lived next to Higginson Park, each time alcohol is served, it has led to consequences ranging from indecent exposure to my wife, to unruly behaviours and even threats of violence.”
Tim Morris added: “We write to object strongly to the above application by Market Square Group Ltd.
“The park is a place of public enjoyment and is surrounded by lots of residential buildings which would be badly affected by the noise, general traffic and mess as well as environmental pollution this would bring.”
As part of planning for this event, Market Square Group “actively engaged” members of a safety advisory group.
“All vehicle movement during trading hours will be kept to an absolute minimum, and supervised by a marshal,” the application states.
“Event staff will litter-pick as necessary, and the event director will ensure that the area is free from litter before being the final one to depart after the event has closed down.
“The licensed premises will be supervised at all times by registered [security] guards.
“There will be focus on quality consumption with the real ale and craft beers rather than quantity consumption.
“All sound levels will be monitored to ensure that they remain within acceptable levels, with sound boards on hand to dampen noise if required.”
Members retired after a recent licensing sub-committee to consider the application. Interested parties will be contacted directly with its decision.
