PARKING in Wycombe looks set to come under the control of Wycombe District Council following a decision tonight.
A Special Parking Area (SPA) will be introduced across the whole of Wycombe District from September if plans are approved. The move would see enforcement placed in the hands of the district council instead of the police.
Last September the Bucks Free Press reported that a survey carried out in April 2006 by RTA Associates found that out of 93 different parking restrictions checked in Marlow and Princes Risborough, only 51 were enforceable.
It showed many signs and lines were unenforceable because of errors in lengths, waiting times or descriptions or due to poor quality.
Buckinghamshire County Council cabinet member for transportation Val Letheran assured motorists that the problems would be ironed out before an SPA is introduced.
At the moment High Wycombe town centre is the only area in the district under the SPA scheme. The move would particularly affect Marlow and Princes Risborough where police enforce parking.
The decision will be taken tonight at a cabinet meeting of the council before being submitted to the Department of Transport if given the go-ahead.
