PLANS to turn a vacant business site to flats have been pulled – amid claims it was an “overdevelopment” on a busy road.

Mr Darshan Dhillon has withdrawn a ‘change of use’ application to overhaul Saxon Court (Grymsdyke Farm), on Main Road, in Lacey Green.

Plans had outlined the conversion of the ground and first floor of the existing building to create eight one-bed, one two-bed and one three-bed apartments – 10 in total.

There were 12 parking spaces also proposed.

But Lacey Green Parish Council said the scheme was an “overdevelopment” and “unacceptable”. It also said it would deny any future employment use for the area.

Other locals had concerns about it being on a “busy” main road.

“Lacey Green PC has reviewed the…applications and finds the proposal unacceptable,” wrote the parish council.

“The proposals are an overdevelopment on the site. This development would deny any further use of the property to provide employment to the local area and there are very few other industrial units in the area.”

“The proposed site would have a roofline change that would overshadow all neighbouring properties,” added local, Ms Hart. “[It] would be overcrowded…with limited infrastructures to support such influx.

“The proposed site would [be on] a very busy, fast main road, making it a ‘black spot’.”

“The proposed development would be considered overdevelopment…with added traffic…[and] very limited amenity a village can offer,” wrote another resident.

“The site has a very narrow exit to a very busy, fast highway near a school that has seen many incidents.”

“I write formally to acknowledge this application has been withdrawn,” a decision notice reads. “No further action will be taken, and no formal decision will be made on it by the authority.”
