The cost of living has impacted many people across the UK with millions of residents doing everything they can to save up their pennies.
This includes Sunderland fan James Jelly, who is going to make the trip from the North East to Wembley Stadium to watch his beloved Black Cats take on Wycombe Wanderers in the League One play-off final.

However, instead of taking the train, driving down and flying to London for the showpiece on May 21, the 33-year-old has decided to do something a bit different.

He will instead fly from Newcastle to Menorca in Spain, spend the night in the Spanish island and then fly from Menorca to Stansted.
A good Samaritan has also offered him a lift from the airport to London, where he will stay on Friday night with a relative.

All of this will cost Mr Jelly £51, rather than the £161.99 flights from Newcastle to London, or the £260 return train ticket.

The Sunderland fan told the Sun newspaper: “I can’t wait for it now.
“I’ve booked it.
“I’m going to pack my shorts and make a little holiday out of it.
“I’ll have a couple of pints and a walk around Menorca.”

“One lad I know paid £260 for a return to London on the train and British Airways wanted £161.99 for a direct flight.”
In total, Mr Jelly’s RyanAir flight from Newcastle to Menorca has cost him £12.50, his hotel for one night is £28, with his flight back to England costing him £10.50.
The Sunderland fan also revealed that the money he has saved will go towards his wedding in August this year.
