A driving instructor who fought against the closure of High Wycombe driving test centre last year has once again spearheaded a campaign to save it a second time. 

Hazzy Raja, owner of Hazzy's Driving School, launched a petition to save the centre the first time round in 2020, and has now revived it to once again stop it from closing. 

Learners were only given one week's notice that the centre, which only opened up in a new location in Lancaster Road in High Wycombe last year, is going to close after Friday, April 29.

Driving instructors have also been left furious, claiming it was their devastated students who told them about the closure and not the DVSA. 

A DVSA spokesman told the Bucks Free Press they have been served notice by their landlords at Cliveden Office Village and must close. 

No tests have been cancelled, instead they have all been moved to Slough - 18 miles away.

Hazzy Raja said it is vital the town's driving test centre - which also serves dozens of nearby towns and villages - is allowed to stay open. 

He said: "They want learners to travel to Slough which is a 36 mile round trip from the current test centre. 

"Lesson prices could potentially increase in High Wycombe due to travelling time and fuel to factor in.

"More training/lessons will be needed for learners [and] learners will have to do longer lessons 3-4 hour sessions."

He also claimed learners should not have to face the "inconvenience of travelling to an unknown town for lessons and tests".

More than 9,000 people have signed the petition to save the centre. 

Former councillor Khalil Ahmed also said the closure is "yet another blow for Wycombe".
