Wycombe Wanderers has apologised to Buckinghamshire Council for upgrading their training ground without seeking planning permission.

The current Marlow Road training facility had major developments last summer with the club recently submitting a retrospective application.

The club doubled the size of the medical facility, added a new boot room, kit room, and media room as well as increased the office space for the coaches and staff.

In addition, the car parking area was re-surfaced and extended in order to provide a location for cars, away from training activities.

A section of the application reads: "These facilities were urgently required, and consistent with those provided for top-flight professional footballers at other Clubs."

It continued: "Wycombe Wanderers Football Club apologise to the Council for implementing this development prior to the grant of planning permission, and no disrespect was intended."

Speaking earlier this year, Wycombe owner, Rob Couhig said: “I think [the training ground], gets into our philosophy that we are developing a Championship infrastructure.

“If you get a chance and you go by the training grounds that we presently use, you’ll see that we have poured a tonne of money into it, to upgrade it to Championship level quality.

“In fact, we’re going to have an open day in probably early spring, so that the fans can come and see what’s being done.

“We’re doing it because it’s the player’s and coach’s office."

The application goes on to discuss the policies in the Wycombe District Local Plan relating to Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and Green Belt.

It finishes by saying that last year's development "does not conflict with Green Belt policy".

In February, plans were revealed by the Bucks Free Press which show details of a new training facility that could be built in Little Marlow by the club.

In the leaked documents, it states the club intends to submit a hybrid planning application with Bede Group Sports & Leisure for the development of a sports hub and Country Park on Westhorpe Farm Lane off Marlow Road.

The plans show how Wanderers would own a community football facility with a "state-of-the-art" sports hall and five new pitches.

Rob Couhig added: "We’re trying to get some planning approval over the next several months to build better facilities for ourselves, more fields with some additional fields in case other teams would like to come along and occasionally practice there."

The land in question is next to the plot where Marlow Studio Project is proposing to build a film studio.

The American continued: “I’ve recently read the criticism of the film studio.

"Ours is night and day different and I take no position into whether that’s good or bad, but we will have no traffic impact to speak of.

“And the reason why we haven’t come out with a full-blown announcement yet is that we’re trying to look through and make sure that we’re as sensitive to everybody as we possibly can."
