Angry residents 'not given enough notice' about disruptive High Wycombe resurfacing works

Daren Norris, who lives in Miersfield, said letters notifying neighbours about resurfacing and patching works around the Cressex Link roundabout taking place all this week were only delivered on Friday afternoon at around 3pm.

Surface treatment patching works are being carried out by Transport for Buckinghamshire (TfB) on the Cressex Link roundabout, Holmers Farm Way, Cressex Link, John Hall Way and the A4010 all this week.

The work is being carried out using a 24-hour road closure on Cressex Link and Holmers Farm Way and temporary traffic lights on the A4010, in operation Monday to Friday, and is expected to take at least five days.

In their letter to residents living nearby, TfB acknowledged the delay in letting people know about the works, saying: "We apologise for the short notice and for any inconvenience caused."

Mr Norris said a hand-delivered notice was only put through his door at 2.10pm on Friday, March 11 - but says the council would have known about this work a long time ago and should have told residents much sooner.

He said on Friday: "This work should have been sign noticed at all junctions approaching, all residents letter-dropped at least six weeks in advance as it is not emergency works, and a road closure requires TTRO (temporary traffic regulation order) that must be applied for at least three months in advance.

"The works are shown as 'permitted' on roadworks.org and so this shows the highways must have done this prior but not notified residents or companies by letter or signs until today."

The letter reads: "Information signs will be erected on site prior to the commencement of the works, giving actual dates and durations.

"Every effort will be made to maintain access for residents, where safe to do so, although there may be some delay as the works pass your property and we apologise for any inconvenience."

Cllr Steve Broadbent, Cabinet Member for Transport at Buckinghamshire Council, said: “We've been working at this site to address the deterioration of the surface and to ensure that the road is safe for residents.

"All interested parties have been notified of the work, although this didn't happen as early as we would've liked due to the funding timescales.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this has caused.

“We're currently carrying out daytime works to allow faster completion and to avoid any delays.

"We aim to have the works completed by Saturday, March 19, and we thank residents for their patience.”
