Costa Coffee is set to open this weekend in Hazlemere at Park Parade.

A workman inside the store revealed that the major coffee chain will open for the first time on Saturday morning at 'Cosy Corner'.

The store has put up the signs outside and is currently adding the final touches inside.

The original planning application says the shop will be open between 6.30am and 6.30pm Monday to Friday, 7am until 6.30pm on Saturday and 8am until 5pm on Sunday.

The Costa is replacing the former florist Pinks and will be the first one in the village.

There was been a mixed reaction to the news when it was announced Costa will be moving to the area.

Roy Craig said: "Yet another Cafe is the last thing we need in Park Parade, I have lived in Lower Lodge Lane, which is adjacent to Park Parade for the last 36 years and I've seen many changes take place there, sadly not all to the good.

"Back in the 80s there was a good selection of shops but this has been diluted a great deal by fast food outlets and Cafes, plus a betting shop, a funeral parlour and a charity shop."

Linda Whalley also lodged an objection to the council saying: "There are already a number of eating places on the parade of shops.

"One independent coffee shop, one independent Café and a National chain fish and chip shop.

"Another coffee shop would not be in the best interests of the existing establishments or the public."

However, Alice Prior-Davis was in full praise of the coffee chain opening in the village.

She said: "I fully support a Costa coffee opening on the parade.

"Currently there is only one coffee shop on the parade which operates very reduced hours and serves coffee that tastes significantly different to Costa.

"As long-term customers of Costa my family and I would be spending a lot more time at the parade with a Costa on our doorstep and would welcome an alternative coffee.

"Costa is more affordable than the current coffee shop and serves much more mainstream food so I feel the two will cater for very different customers rather than compete.

"Costa is a large company with a powerful advertising and will be a big pull for the parade.

"Many people passing through stop for a Costa and will then discover the joys the parade has to offer.

"Costa has an excellent community scheme that could really make a positive difference to Hazlemere residents and their chatty cafes are a huge support to people feeling lonely.

"I think Costa is an excellent vendor for this shop and for the area."

James Danbury also added his support.

He said: "I welcome the proposal for a Costa Coffee at Park Parade. I

"It would be a very useful addition to the facilities available.

"Of the existing facilities, one is a cafe serving mainly food, the other operates limited hours five days week, and has only limited seating.

"It would also benefit other shops by increasing awareness to more people of what else is available nearby."
