Anyone caught fly-tipping will face heavy fines after council responses to mess left on A404.

Following an "absolutely disgusting amount" of rubbish dumped on the A404 at Bisham the council has said anyone caught littering could face a £100 fine which will be reduced to £75 if paid within 14 days.

Those who do not pay within 14 days could face prosecution for the offence and, if convicted, may receive a fine of up to £2,500.

The twitter user who spotted the rubbish said: "Absolutely disgusting amount of Rubbish here on the A404 at #Bisham.

"No exaggeration to say the litter and flytipping is piled high.

Shame on Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead council for allowing this to get so bad.

Councillor David Cannon, cabinet member for public protection called anyone who drops litter as "inresponsible" and "selfish" reminding people it is a criminal act.

He said: “As the public expects, the council takes a zero tolerance approach against all forms of environmental crime, including fly-tipping, dog-fouling and littering, which unfortunately pollutes the environment for everyone.

“It is a criminal offence to drop litter and there is no excuse to do so when there are plenty of public bins in the borough where residents and visitors can properly dispose of their litter, or we’d encourage people to take it home and dispose of it there.

"Those who drop litter are being irresponsible with little thought for the harm their selfish actions can cause the environment, wildlife and, potentially, the public. There are also financial consequences with the cost of clearing dumped waste.

“In this particular case, our contractors are liaising with Highways England and will work with them to arrange for this area to be cleared as soon as possible. Because this is a busy A road, it will require a road closure to enable teams to work safely to remove the litter.

“The council has a dedicated enforcement team to tackle environmental crime in order to make the borough a cleaner and safer place to live, work and visit.

"Anyone caught littering on a first occasion will be liable to receive a £100 fixed penalty notice, however this will be reduced to £75 if paid within 14 days.

"Those not paying within 14 days will be prosecuted for the offence and, if convicted, may receive a fine of up to £2,500.
