PEOPLE are in disbelief over a highway blunder in a Bucks town.
A manhole cover put back incorrectly on Germain Street in Chesham has prompted people on social media to question whether “someone left their brain at home”.
Tom George alerted Bucks Council to the obvious fault, believed to be the responsibility of a utilities company, because the misplaced sewer lid had also misaligned the double-yellow lines painted on it.
Mr George said the newly askew cover is just outside The Red Lion pub.
The council said it suspects a utilities company inspected the chamber and put the cover back on the wrong way.
Others on social media also commented, some saying it was done on purpose, others joking it might be street artist Banksy.
Steve Richards: “Just the drain team keeping the line removal and painting teams employed?”
Craig Hope: “That appears to be a sport in South Wales, it’s got to be done for a laugh.”
Chris Daniel: “One job. They had just one job.”
London Lad: “Someone left their brain at home.”
John Fitz: “Attention to detail.”
Adrian Mayhew: “Banksy?”
“Really?” Mr George.
A Bucks Council spokesman: "It will be the utility company’s responsibility to correct this and we will let them know – we will go out and check it but today our focus is on essential safety inspections and our response to the current and expected severe weather conditions."
