A drink driver known as a “danger to the public” has been banned from the roads for three years after she was caught nearly five times over the limit.
Clare John, 48, was intoxicated while behind the wheel of a Smart car in Witan Gate, Milton Keynes, on June 26, 2021.
The driver gave a breath test reading of 156 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 35 micrograms in 100 millilitres of blood, meaning John, of Woodhall, Lincolnshire, was nearly five times over the limit.

At a hearing at Milton Keynes Magistrates’ Court on February 10, the court heard how John, who pleaded guilty to drink driving, was a “danger to the public” by being in charge of a vehicle while so was so heavily intoxicated.
Despite the risk John posed to the public, the magistrates stopped short of sending her to prison because she had completed an alcohol rehabilitation course and showed a “realistic prospect of rehabilitation.”
Rather than putting her in custody, the justices gave John a 12-week sentence suspended for 18 months.
She was also disqualified from driving for three years, and ordered to pay £213 costs.
