Stranger replaces stolen Valentine's flowers on Marlow High Street

Michael New OBE, 89, was married to his wife, Janet New, for 43 years with the bench placed on Marlow High Street in her memory.

This year on Valentine's Day Michael placed a bunch of daffodils on the bench to commemorate his "darling wife" who sadly passed away in 2003, aged 70.

The daffodils were removed the day after Valentine's Day

However, when he returned the following day the flowers had been removed.

Michael said: "I was disappointed that the little token bunch of flowers I’d taped there on Valentine’s Day had been removed.

"I wondered why anyone should think that a nice or perhaps a funny thing to do."

They have since been placed by a stranger

Since then a kind stranger has replaced the daffodils with a new bunch to the delight of Michael.

He added: "Thank you so much to the person who placed flowers on the bench this morning. You are so kind.

"Three people have written on Facebook that they will put flowers on the bench next time they pass by. It’s very touching."

He described his wife as an "exceptionally beautiful lady" who was well known in Marlow.

He continued: "We lived first in Beaufort Gardens and then in the oldest house in Institute Road.

"Our daughter, Sophie Vareley, also lives in Marlow.

"That bench was a gift to Marlow from me."
