Wycombe Wanderers have offered their well wishes to former winger Paul Smyth, who has suffered a collapsed lung.

Smyth, who had a year with the Chairboys in the 2019/20 season when they won promotion to the Championship, was injured in a challenge by Mansfield Town’s Elliott Hewitt during Leyton Orient’s 2-0 defeat at the Stags on January 29.

The Northern Irish international was taken into hospital following the tackle, but it is feared that he will miss more of the season, following his move to the Os in the summer.

He has only played 12 games for the club since joining from QPR last June.

Leyton Orient’s manager, Kenny Jackett, said of the injury: “It’s not good news.

“It was in a challenge on 40 minutes in the first half and he has a collapsed lung, which isn’t good news.

“He was in hospital on Saturday night, but he is in good spirits and is being looked after well, but in terms of his football, he won’t be with us for a little while.”

On his injury, Smyth added: “Life is 10 per cent what happens to you and 90 per cent how you respond to it. I will be back once again!”

Wycombe replied to their former player by saying: “Get well soon, Smythy!”

In his only season at the club, Smyth played 21 times for Wycombe, scoring once which happened to be on his debut in a 2-0 home win against Bolton Wanderers.
