A fresh-faced drug dealer had ‘seen the light’ and ‘stopped playing around the court system’, a judge said.

Lucas Gomes, 21, was praised for his ‘sensible’ decision to plead guilty to dealing cocaine and heroin in High Wycombe last year.

“Very sensibly you’ve seen the light and decided it’s time to stop playing around the court system, admit you're guilty and take your punishment,” Recorder John Hardy QC said.

Gomes, of Congera Court, High Wycombe, had been due to stand trial but, appearing before Oxford Crown Court on Monday, pleaded guilty to charges of possession with intent to supply 28g of cocaine on February 8, 2021, possession with intent to supply crack cocaine and heroin on April 9, and simple possession of cannabis last February.

Remanding him in custody and setting the sentencing date for March 4, the judge said: “You’ve been influenced in your life, it would appear, by others who have manipulated you to some extent into a life which you might otherwise have avoided.

“In the circumstances I’m going to adjourn your case for a pre-sentence report.

“[I make] no promises as to the outcome, but whoever is dealing with it will bear in mind you will have served the equivalent of a two-year sentence.”
