PLANS to tear down a property in favour of flats has sparked concerns about loss of light due to its “large and bulky” design.

Mr and Mrs John-Paul Stalder have submitted to Bucks Council a planning application for Northwold, 33 Austenway, Chalfont St Peter.

Plans detail the demolition of the house and annex and the erection of four apartments, plus a widened vehicle access.

Twelve parking spaces are also proposed.

But objectors have raised concerns about the size of the development, potential loss of light, and traffic.

Mrs Michelle Rogers: “The proposed development is too large and bulky for the plot and completely out of character with the rest of the road. It far exceeds the size of the other properties on the road and will result in change of character for the area forever.”

Mr Damien Hicks: “It significantly exceeds the size of any other property in the road. It will destroy the green outlook of the road.”

Mrs Mavis Evans: “The surrounding neighbours will suffer loss of light and privacy as it is so dense.”

Mr Russell Cobb: “There is already heavy congestion at peak times in Austenway and additional residences in the road with additional cars will exacerbate this. The planned size is much bigger than the other buildings in the road and unlikely to blend in with the existing housing stock. No other flats.”

However, a design and access statement: “The proposed development has been designed to harmonise with neighbouring buildings and will be of a similar bulk and massing to the neighbouring dwellings.”

Council officers will now decide what becomes of the application.
