A 21-year-old woman "nearly lost her life" in a horror crash in Hazlemere with doctors fearing she wouldn't be able to walk again.
The woman, who spoke to the Bucks Free Press but asked to remain anonymous, fractured her spine, broke her pelvis and both collar bones as well as needing multiple stitches in her head.
Initially, doctors believed she wouldn't be able to move her legs again but now she is undergoing physical therapy to re-learn to walk and she is "improving each day".
On the night of the crash, she was on her way home from the pub with her friend when they were hit by an alleged drunk driver "going 70mph" on Holmer Green Road as emergency services descended on the area at around 12.30am on December 28.
Thames Valley Police have since confirmed a 20-year-old man from Hazlemere has been arrested on suspicion of driving when alcohol level was above the limit and causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Both women were taken to the John Radcliffe Hospital where she was told she was "lucky to be alive" after she was unable to remember the crash.
She said: "I’m finding it really mentally challenging and feeling really isolated but I’m lucky to still be here.
"I really think that people need to understand the dangers of drink driving more and they need to realise it’s not clever because things like what happened to me and worse can happen.

"It’s really scary going through this but I’m so lucky to be alive and I’m improving each day.
"I am so proud of myself and how far I’ve come.
"It’s definitely made me appreciate life a lot more and enjoy the small things we have."
Over the weekend, she has since been able to return home where she faces ten weeks of tough rehabilitation as she continues her recovery.
Her friend suffered a broken arm and after spending the night in the hospital returned home the following day.
