Police have issued a warning after a driver crashed their car during an 'illegal street race' in Milton Keynes.
The motorist had be taken to hospital after their Mini rolled several times before crashing near a roundabout in Caldecotte on Saturday night.
Thames Valley Police said officers tried to stop a large number of motorists from taking part in illegal races between roundabouts in various locations across Milton Keynes.
They said 'large amounts of cars’ congregated along dual carriageways to participate with spectators gathering to watch.
Street racing has gained popularity in recent years following on from the success of the Fast & Furious film franchise which centres around illegal races.
Warning about the dangers, TVP’s roads policing team shared a photograph of the damaged car to their social media page.
The image shows the dark Mini visibly damaged with a dented roof and smashed front bonnet.
In a stark warning to their followers, the force posted: “Street racing is inherently dangerous for road users and participants will be prosecuted.”
Describing the circumstances of the evening, they wrote: “Last night, Thames Valley's Roads Policing officers attempted to disrupt illegal street racing in several locations throughout Milton Keynes.
"Large amounts of cars congregated along dual carriageways with pedestrian spectators to watch vehicles racing between roundabouts.
“Whilst patrolling those locations, officers came across a road traffic collision whereby a participating vehicle had left the carriageway at a roundabout near Caldecotte in the wet conditions.
“The car rolled causing significant damage to the vehicle and the driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to the local hospital by South Central Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust The investigation is currently on-going.”
