A major investigation into an alleged murder that took place in the 1980s has led to police charging a man with a number of offences. 

Donald Robertson, formerly of Slough, is set to appear in court this morning (November 26) in relation to the alleged murder of Shani Warren.

Ms Warren’s body was found in a lake in Taplow in 1987.

65-year-old Robertson has also been summoned to court in relation to the kidnap and rape of a 16-year-old girl on Farnham Lane in Slough in July 1981. 

Robertson will appear at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court on November 26. 

In June, a 65-year-old man was arrested by Thames Valley Police in connection with Ms Warren’s death before being released days later. 

What is the story behind Ms Warren’s death?

Shani was 26 when she disappeared on Good Friday, April 17, 1987, and never returned.

She had been mowing the lawn at her home in Stoke Poges and had set off in her car to dispose of the grass cuttings at the compost heap at her parents’ home in Gerrards Cross.

The next day, she was found dead in Taplow Lake.

Her cause of death was drowning. Police had initially treated her death as suicide.

It was only after a post-mortem found she had drowned that a murder investigation was opened.
