A 39-year-old man was found by police with knives after trying to steal from Sainsbury's in High Wycombe.

Jason Edwards, of no fix abode, also stole a wallet from a car on Chairborough Road using it to make two purchases at Asda in Cressex two months prior to being arrested at Sainsbury's.

Two knives were found on him after he tried to steal £110 worth of stock from the store on Oxford Road last Saturday (November 20).

Two days later (November 22), Edwards pleaded guilty to fraud and carrying knives and was sentenced to eight weeks in prison, suspended for a year, and fined £40 at High Wycombe Magistrates’ Court.

PC Daniel Page, based at High Wycombe police station, said: “The weapon that officers located had the potential to cause significant injury had it been used.

“Thames Valley Police will not tolerate the carrying of any weapons in a public place, and I am pleased that he has been convicted of this offence.

“I would remind anybody who thinks that it is acceptable to carry a weapon that officers can stop and search individuals if they have reasonable grounds to do so, and we will work tirelessly to ensure weapons are kept off the streets of our communities.”
