This week, we again spoke to the Wycombe High School’s headteacher Sharon Cromie to see how things are going.

“Generous Spirit” is one of the four core values we all strive for at Wycombe High.

This is why today (Friday) students are once more making a concerted effort to raise money for BBC Children In Need.

For the first time since lockdown, the entire school (with the exception of Year 11 who are taking their mock GCSE exams) will be coming to school in mufti) and our student fundraising organisers, Ella Pennell and Lily Ellis (pictured) are hoping to beat last year’s total raise of £1,558.16.

Ella said: “Children in Need funds 2,500 local charities and it gives children an environment to thrive in.

One of our core values is ‘generous spirit’ so it’s a great way that we can embody this by having a bit of fun and raising money for this important charity”.

National Anti-Bullying week is another big event for the students here at Wycombe High, with special assemblies, student focus groups whilst making their own anti-bullying videos.

We have a zero-tolerance policy and are currently conducting our annual survey to capture students’ views on our anti-bullying procedures and how we can best continue to keep students safe at the school.

Last week, our Interfaith Society organised a hugely successful Diwali celebration (pictured).

Students drew Diwali rangolis, ate traditional jalebi, and generally celebrated this very special festival.

Meanwhile, our Year English students went to Stratford-upon-Avon on Wednesday, for a guided tour of William Shakespeare’s birthplace and a seminar on Hamlet as part of their A-level exam preparation.

We are very proud of Wycombe High TV – which we believe is the only student TV station in Britain.

This week’s WHTV ’s news bulletin includes an interview with Maddie Lock, in Year 13 who, when she’s not studying for her A-levels, has been wowing the world of website design with her professional creations, including a website for a veterinary company that has invented the microchip for diagnosing illnesses in animals!

Maddie said: “I would like to do this in future, definitely – it’s also what I want to study at university”.

Like so many of our students, Maddie is multi-talented. She is one of two students who will be playing the lead role of Nancy, in our upcoming production of Lionel Bart’s Oliver.

And speaking of music - the WHTV production crew will also be covering this year’s Christmas Concert Live! on Wednesday, December 8.

The Christmas Concert, our first with a live audience since lockdown, will also be broadcast live around the world via YouTube.

It will be an all-student production, with students not only presenting and performing but also operating the cameras, sound, lights, vision-mixer, and autocue. The concert will be raising money for Wycombe Homeless Connection – yet another example of the student ethos of ‘Generous Spirit’.
