A cannabis gardener told magistrates he wanted to be arrested after he was caught running from a giant drugs farm.

Huyen van Nguyen, 38, was picked up after an alarm went off at what emerged to be a huge cannabis farm in Milton Keynes on October 20.

A member of the public saw three men running from the industrial unit, rang 999 and managed to perform a citizen’s arrest on one of the fleeing men.

Inside the unit on the Kiln Farm industrial estate, police found 321 drying cannabis plants, almost 250 saplings and more than 100 mature plants.

Appearing before Oxford Magistrates’ Court on Saturday, Nguyen, of no fixed address, pleaded guilty to producing cannabis.

The defendant, who has no previous convictions but was said to be wanted in connection with immigration offences, told the magistrates through a translator: “I intended to be arrested and I intended to plead guilty.”

He was remanded in custody to appear before Aylesbury Crown Court for sentencing on a date to be fixed.
