The death of a ‘kind and loving’ 16-year-old girl who passed away while on holiday in France was due to natural causes, a coroner has ruled.
An inquest into the death of Apryl Scorer took place at Beaconsfield Coroners’ Court yesterday (Tuesday) following her tragic death on August 13, 2020 at a campsite while on a family holiday in France.
The coroner found that the cause of the Hazlemere teenager’s sudden and unexpected death was a pre-existing heart condition.

At the inquest, which was attended by several of Apryl’s loved ones, the teenager’s mother Nikki stood up and gave an emotional and touching tribute to her daughter.
She said: “When I used to talk about Apryl I would say if I could pick anyone off the shelf I would pick her.
“Apryl was a special girl, she was the best she could be.
“She will be missed by everyone lucky enough to have met her.”
Looking at the evidence sent over by French police, assistant coroner Nicholas Graham told the court how Apryl, who was a year 11 student at Sir William Ramsay, had had a few small drinks that evening with her family before going out with friends near the campsite.
On her way home she had started to appear unwell, at first struggling to walk and having difficulty breathing, which continued to get worse.
Apryl’s friends, the campsite’s security staff and the fire brigade, who were the first emergency responders on the scene, all tried to help save Apryl’s life, but she was pronounced dead at around 4am.

The coroner told the court that a post-mortem had found that Apryl had no traces of alcohol in her blood, but that it had uncovered a pre-existing heart condition.
Mr Graham said: “I don’t think, alcohol played a part in the death at all, it seems it was a pre-existing condition and it's incredibly unlucky that the circumstances arose on that evening, but that’s not to say they couldn’t have arisen any other time.
“There was no other third-party involvement, nothing untoward or anything like that.”
The coroner ruled that Apryl died of natural causes, with the cause of death a pre-existing heart condition.
