Buildings and walls in Amersham have been graffitied with anti-vaccination messages in the week the government denies October half-term “firebreak” lockdown claims.

However, Downing Street could not rule out a “firebreak” lockdown as a last resort if the NHS were to be overwhelmed by Covid cases in England.

Graffiti reading “no unsafe jabs for kids” was left on an unused shop which is currently up for let after Tyre Pros moved out of Grimsdells Corner on Sycamore Road.

On Rectory Hill “know the side effects” has been graffitied onto the wall under the railway bridge.

The council says they are aware of the graffiti and are working with the property owners to arrange its removal.

Peter Strachan, Cabinet Member for Climate Change and Environment said: “Unsolicited graffiti of any sort on public or private property is a criminal offence.

“Not only does it cause damage to property, it can be upsetting for members of the public to view.”

The company letting Grimsdells Corner, Jaggard Maclan, said they have notified the tenants about the graffiti.

Network Rail said that removal of graffiti is not something they would prioritise unless the bridge was in need of repair.

A Network Rail spokesperson said: “We are aware that the railway bridge in Amersham has been targeted with graffiti.

“Whilst we recognise graffiti can be unpleasant the cost of removal can often be expensive.

“The safety of the public, passengers and our staff is our number one priority and our track engineers regularly check the condition of our rail infrastructure.

“This bridge is not currently in need of repair and therefore is not something we would prioritise to do.”
