A woman says was left shocked at a “rude and unprofessional” response to a review she left after visiting a Princes Risborough pub.
Helen Evans left an online review of the George and Dragon pub in the High Street pointing out that there were no baby-changing facilities and that the baby highchairs were reportedly being stored in the toilets.
She praised the “rustic” pub and the “friendly” staff after her August visit but was left “disappointed” by the facilities for babies.
Helen left the pub a review on TripAdvisor, rating it two out of five, adding: “I think they need to think outside the box this is not a family friendly pub and they are missing out as this is a family area.”
But she was shocked to log into the site after leaving her review to see the pub had left a sarcastic response that she has branded “rude and unprofessional”.
The response joked that it was “utterly unforgivable” that they did not have baby changing facilities, even if their service and the food was good.
Signed off by the “guest relations manager”, the response reads: “Thank you for sharing your review with us. I can understand your frustration with your experience as I too know that pubs are renowned for being just the place you take toddlers and infants to.
“Indeed, one comes to expect a play area with a 14-year-old locally sourced babysitter, bottle heating facilities and nursery rhymes throughout the day when visiting a pub.
“As such, even if the food is high quality and locally sourced, service is friendly and the place is clean - the absence of a baby change facility is utterly unforgivable.
“You would be delighted to learn that we had discussed your feedback in length in our recent board meeting and have unanimously decided on the erection of a secure, state-of-the-art baby play area in the carpark complete with baby change facilities, completion expected early summer 2025.
“Until then, we suggest you visit Wizz-Kids or Zoomania when you next feel like having a decent lunch, and maybe a pint.
“Looking forward to having you here again in 2025!”
Helen told the Bucks Free Press: “It’s so rude and unprofessional. This local business clearly is not doing much to attract locals. I can’t understand as they provide highchairs (stored in the toilet) and they also have a kids’ menu.”
The George and Dragon was recently given a huge makeover after new owner Barak Peled, from Princes Risborough, took on the pub that had been empty for years before.
The George and Dragon was approached for comment by the Bucks Free Press but has not yet responded. We will publish the response when we receive it.
