Anti-social drivers of cars that have "obnoxious" modifications are disturbing High Wycombe residents "throughout the night", a frustrated resident has claimed.

It has been well-documented in the past that the town has a problem with anti-social driving - with complaints from residents including speeding, off-road bikes being used in the streets and in woodlands and noisy modifications keeping people awake.

Just last month, a number of off-road motorbikes and quad bikes were seized by police in Micklefield after residents complained about noise and anti-social riding.

A rental car was also seized by police in the town on July 20 because a driver was seen speeding through the streets in it, with officers acknowledging "anti-social driving can frustrate communities".

And a quick search for 'Wycombe' on social media site TikTok reveals a string of videos showing drivers speeding and driving recklessly through the town and on the M40 and drifting on residential roads in Castlefield.

One appears to show a driver recording speeds of nearly 70mph on Bridge Street in the town centre, while another shows cars overtaking lines of queuing traffic on New Road.

The issue of anti-social driving in the town was raised on social media once again recently amid complaints a car that has been modified to sound like "gunshots" was waking up a six-month-old baby near Micklefield Road every night.

One fed-up resident told the Bucks Free Press: "One car in particular is disturbing people across the entire town, throughout the night.

He said: "Although this car is causing a disturbance, it's by no means the only one.

"There seems to be a trend of antisocial driving around Wycombe, and in my experience a lot of the worst offenders regularly visit Frogmoor. I'm beyond frustrated."

Another frustrated Oakridge area resident complained to the Bucks Free Press about the noise of dirt and quad bikes in the town.

She said: "For an increasing number of years now, off road dirt bikes and quadbikes have dramatically appeared around the Oakridge area of High Wycombe and are being used and seen on busy roads in greater numbers than in the past.

"Most of the people who ride these are young people, who have not legally passed their driving test, and who are also uninsured.

"Quite a lot of these vehicles seen are being driven on roads in traffic and are not roadworthy and not passed any MOT.

"Also the noises from these vehicles is absolutely horrendous, when these young people are driving around the local street, up and down, showing off the power of these really noisy engines which can be heard throughout the houses, especially at night times."

Thames Valley Police says vehicle nuisance can include illegal street racing, street cruising, riding unlicensed powered vehicles and performing stunts and tricks.

They say: "Some people regard this kind of vehicle use as harmless fun. However, regular antisocial vehicle use can have a wider impact on a neighbourhood or community than simply nuisance noise.

"The effect of dangerous or reckless use of a vehicle can lead to criminal damage of roads, other vehicles and surrounding property.

"Drivers and riders also risk injuring themselves, other road users, cyclists and pedestrians as they do not have full control of their vehicle and their full attention on their surroundings.

"Driving or riding in this way can also be used as a form of intimidation, either to other road users or the community.

"Loud noise from engines and music, and deliberately creating large amounts of exhaust or tyre smoke can also be seen as an aggressive act."
