Residents have reacted to news that Porsche and Bentley dealerships could be built in High Wycombe.
While a majority seemed to be in favour of Dealership Developments’ plans for the site of the former leisure centre at Handy Cross, others questioned whether there was a local market for the brands.
One person said Porsche and Bentley needed to ‘know their market’ before setting up shop.

However, most people said it was “great news” for the town and welcomed the jobs it could mean for local people.
One person said they were just looking forward to taking selfies with the cars.

Here’s what supporters had to say:
“Great news,” wrote one person. “Decent electric charging and I won’t have to travel to Reading or Hatfield to a dealership.”
“This is great news for the town,” wrote another. “Two more quality brands alongside Waitrose, Hungry Caterpillar, and Hampton by Hilton.”
“Great news for the area,” wrote another person. “Lots of job opportunities and hopefully apprenticeships for the younger generation.”
“I think anything that brings jobs and commerce to High Wycombe is great,” wrote Cllr Melanie Smith.
Adding: “Such a stark contrast to the food deprivation we’ve been reading about this week – it’s hard to believe this is all the same town.”
“Great news for the area, jobs for some,” wrote someone else.
“Great location for both those brand dealerships,” wrote another person.
“Great. Can’t wait to take selfies,” wrote someone.
Whereas some people were still unsure:
“Roughly half-way between Beaconsfield and Marlow where people live that can afford such things,” wrote one person.
Another person, who received several responses online, wrote: “I’m going to get slated for this but, Porsche and Bentley in Wycombe – really? ‘Know your market’ springs to mind.”
“There is a lot of money in Bucks, maybe not in Wycombe itself but a lot just outside though,” replied someone.
“We all know that there’s lots of affluent people who live on the outskirts,” replied someone else. “And there will be more now many people can work remotely and don’t have to commute to the city.”
New plans detail the ‘construction of a two-storey (3,935 sqm) building for use as a Porsche Centre, a two-storey (1,655 sqm) building for use as a Bentley dealership, and a single-storey (492 sqm) building for use as a car preparation workshop’.
It will also create 88 new jobs.
The applicant is now awaiting a decision from Bucks Council.
