This is what you have been writing to us about this week.
We are alarmed that the increase in numbers of hospital doctors is slowing down at the exact moment the NHS needs to boost its workforce to deal with the backlog.
Currently we estimate that it will take years just to tackle this backlog and it’s unrealistic to think that doctors can do this and meet the normal demands of a busy NHS.
Without the correct and safe number of doctors, patients are at risk, waiting times increase and doctors’ wellbeing suffers.
In our recent Medical Staffing in England report, we set out some recommendations to reverse this historic and continuing workforce crisis including; more investment in medical school places, retention initiatives so doctors aren’t forced to leave or retire early, and fair pay for all healthcare workers.
