With news this week that nine new houses could be built on the old car park in Old Kiln Road, Flackwell Heath, we dug out some archive photos of the area in years gone by.
This first picture, possibly from the 1930s, is of the Green Man pub in Straight Bit.
The pub was demolished in 2012 and a Sainsbury’s Local now stands in its place.

This second picture shows the old Budgens supermarket and nearby premises on corner of Old Kiln Road in February 1989.
The store closed its doors in 2013 after 40 years of serving the village, less than a year after Sainsbury’s opened on the site of the Green Man pub.
