A Bucks woman who was banned from keeping animals has been given a prison sentence after she was caught with someone else’s horse.

Tamara Lewis, aged 57, appeared at Buckinghamshire Magistrates’ Court on July 6, where she pleaded guilty to two counts of breaching a disqualification in breach of the Animal Welfare Act 2006.

The court heard how on December 13, 2020, Lewis, who was banned from keeping horses following an offence in 2013, was caught transporting a stallion between Stratton Audley and Steeple Claydon.

The prosecution outlined that Lewis had failed to inform the owner of the horse that she was banned from transporting or arranging transportation for animals.

The court heard how this was not the first time Lewis had breached her ban, and it was judged that she posed “medium risk of harm” to the animal.

Lewis, of North End Road in Steeple Claydon, was given an eight-week prison sentence suspended for two years and ordered to pay £428 costs.

She was also issued with a further five-year disqualification from keeping animals, which includes transporting or arranging transportation for them.

Lewis will also have to complete 120 hours of unpaid work within the next year.
