This week, newly elected Chesham and Amersham MP Sarah Green writes exclusively to Bucks Free Press readers for the first time:

The four weeks since I was elected as Member of Parliament for Chesham & Amersham have flown by.

In this short time I have been recruiting key members of staff, sourcing local office space, and meeting with local charities, schools and groups from across our constituency.

In short, it has been a busy but rewarding time.

Despite having been in the job for only a month, I have already voted on the important issue of Foreign Aid.

This Government seems to have forgotten the lesson that although charity begins at home, it doesn’t end there.

The cut to the foreign aid budget represents a breaking of a promise made by the UK Government, a direct challenge to UK standing and therefore security across the globe, and a world view that is at odds with modern Britain.

It is an appalling signal to send out, especially as the country rallies around England’s young lions after the racist and cowardly abuse a number of them suffered after the European Championships Final at Wembley.

We are strongest as a society when we keep our promises and stand up for those who represent us on the international stage. These last few weeks have reinforced this for me.

The privilege of representing our community in Parliament will never be lost on me and I want you to know that I will stand up for all in our area; always listening to your views and ensuring that your interests are first and foremost in my mind when I speak in the House of Commons.

Please remember, if you have an issue and need to get in touch you can do so by emailing sarah.green.mp@parliament.uk or sending a letter to Sarah Green MP, House of Commons, London, SW1A 0AA.
