The council has urged the public to report allegations of HGV drivers ‘defecating by the roadside’ to the police – after it said a lack of parking restrictions on a lane meant it is “unable to take enforcement action” against the drivers.

Bucks Council said it ‘hoped’ Thames Valley Police (TVP) can take “appropriate action” to address claims truckers are allegedly treating Willets Lane in Denham like a “lorry park”, after a member of the public complained some drivers were using the verge as a toilet.

More than two weeks after the reports were levelled at the council, cabinet member for transport Cllr Steven Broadbent said he was “horrified” by the claims, adding residents could push for new parking restrictions on Willets Lane – and that they should report any anti-social behaviour to TVP.

The response came after a resident claimed they feared their grandchildren would witness a trucker ‘urinating or defecating in the bushes’ when riding in the car.

They also claimed HGV drivers block an entire lane, that potholes on Willets Lane have got worse, that use of the road by HGVs had ramped up in the past two years, and that when they complain, Bucks Council “pass the buck”.

Cllr Broadbent said: “At present, we’re unable to take enforcement action against HGVs parked in Willets Lane in Denham, as there are no parking restrictions on the lane. However, residents can raise requests for new parking restrictions by going to https://bit.ly/BucksParkingRestrictions.

“We’ve also arranged for our Highways Team to inspect the road for any defects that meet our intervention levels in line with our Highways Safety Inspection Policy.

“In terms of obstruction and anti-social behaviour on Willets Lane, these would be matters for Thames Valley Police, who can be contacted by calling 101 or by going online to www.thamesvalley.police.uk/ro/report/ocr/af/how-to-report-a-crime.

“Finally, if the reports of HGV drivers using the lane as a public toilet are correct, then I’m horrified by this and hope that Thames Valley Police can take appropriate action to prevent this from happening again.”
