UPDATE: Andrew Lawrence is dropped by his management following racist tweets
A comedy club has decided to cancel the set of a comedian who published racially motivated tweets.
Andrew Lawrence, who was due to perform at the Chesham Comedy Club in the near future, said the tweets following England’s heartbreaking defeat to Italy in the 2020 European Championship final on July 11.
The Three Lions lost the match 3-2 on penalties, following 120 minutes of football which ended 1-1.

In the resulting penalty shoot-out, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka all missed their spot kicks, which gave the Azzurri its first Euros title since 1968.
Following this, Mr Lawrence tweeted: “I’d rather he’d practised his penalties, and the kids had gone hungry.”
This was aimed at Marcus Rashford who back in October, helped millions of children across the UK receive free school meals during the half-term.
He also tweeted: “All I’m saying is, the white guys scored” and “I can see that this has offended a lot of people, and I’m sorry that black guys are bad at penalties.”
His tweets prompted a lot of anger from people on the site who labelled these statements as racist and following the backlash, Chesham Comedy Club replied to the comic on July 12 and said: “I know you won’t particularly care, but we at Chesham comedy club will not tolerate racism in any form so please consider your booking with us cancelled.”

Mr Lawrence has since deleted his Twitter account following the criticism.
After the defeat at Wembley Stadium, Saka, Sancho and Rashford received a wave of racial abuse online, which led to the FA, their respected clubs and the Prime Minister to issue statements offering their support.
Sancho and Rashford were brought on by manager Gareth Southgate at the end of extra time to specifically take the spot-kicks, which they subsequently missed.
