“Nightmare” bin collections at a new housing development in High Wycombe have been plaguing fed-up residents for months – prompting an apology from the council.
Residents living at the new Berkeley Homes Abbey Barn Park development on Abbey Barn Lane say the council’s bin collections have been a “nightmare for the past few months”.
The bins are supposed to be collected on Mondays, but one resident told the Bucks Free Press that has not happened for around three months.
They said: “Every single week, several residents report missed bins which then may or may not be collected sometime during the week.
“Garden bins have not been collected for the past six weeks and the Chiltern Council website does not allow reporting of missed garden bin collections. The missed bin website also gives inconsistent information when we try to report, with adjacent streets showing entirely different dates/reasons.”
They also said “entirely different” reasons for why adjacent streets have not had their bins collected are provided by Buckinghamshire Council.
The resident said: “The council sometimes gives the reason that the roadworks at junction between Abbey Barn Land and Heath End Road prevents bin lorries from entering the site but the builder says that access is not blocked.”
Berkeley Homes are currently building a new three-arm roundabout at the Abbey Barn Lane and the Heath End Road junction with road closures and temporary traffic lights in place, but the developers said access would be maintained for emergency and construction vehicles.
A spokesman for Buckinghamshire Council has apologised to residents on the new estate, which will have hundreds of new homes on it once finished, highlighting a number of issues including the weight limit at the other end of Abbey Barn Lane.
Peter Strachan, cabinet member for climate change and environment at the council, said: “We are aware of an ongoing issue with access to these properties, primarily caused by roadworks which are taking place in the area.
“There is also an issue with nearby weight restrictions which can make access for our vehicles extremely difficult at times. Like all road users our collection vehicles must abide by the rules of the road.
“We sincerely apologise to local residents for the inconvenience caused. Refuse was collected on Monday as scheduled and our crews were able to collect garden waste and recycling last week.”
“We will continue to monitor the situation to ensure that this collection service improves going forward.”
