Wooburn Green residents have complained about “dangerous” speeding on a major road through a village.
Wycombe Lane, an A-road that joins the centre of Wooburn Green to Loudwater, is a busy road with a 40mph speed limit on one stretch, even though there are houses all along it.
The issue of speeding on the A4094 has been raised among concerns residents once again, with some saying they “take our lives into our hands” trying to cross it.
It is not the first time speeding along the busy residential road has been raised.
In September 2020, a petition was launched after a toddler and his dad were involved in a hit-and-run when a “speeding” car crashed into their vehicle and fled.
The petition was launched by Laura Woodley, who said the one speed camera along the road is “simply not adequate to control the increasing number of speeding vehicles on our long road which is now being used as a race track”.
Concerned Wycombe Lane residents have raised the issue once again on social media site NextDoor, with one saying traffic speeds past their house “24/7” and the speed camera “doesn’t work” because cars and bikes “tear up and down Wycombe Lane with no fear of penalties”.
They added: “We take our life in our hand crossing the road as our house is on a blind corner.”
Another resident, who has lived on Wycombe Lane for seven years, said: “The traffic has got considerably worse during that time and there has been an increase in lorry traffic for sure.
“The screeching motorbikes have always been a problem and particularly at this time of year. It is better in the winter.
“I don't really understand the 40mph limit on the stretch on Boundary Road up until the point it becomes Wycombe Lane. The whole road is residential.
“Heralding originally from northwest London where it is nigh impossible to drive at great speed, I do find that some drivers drive like maniacs around here and are incredibly selfish both to pedestrians and to local people living on these roads.”
A resident of Boundary Road, which becomes Wycombe Lane, said vehicles driving 50 or 60mph is an “everyday occurrence”.
They said: “We love this area but have made the decision to move away from Boundary Road because of the dangerous traffic.
“Honestly it will take a tragedy for retrospective action to be taken and it will be too late.”
A response to a resident’s concerns about speeding from Wooburn and Bourne End Parish Council said they were aware of the issues and are “working with Bucks [Council] to try and resolve problems”.
