A local primary school has launched an initiative to promote a passion for reading in their pupils.

Children from West Wycombe School dressed up as a ‘WOW word’ – a word that is challenging, interesting and innovative.

The school also asked children to bring in their favourite books to donate to other pupils.

The day saw the school run a teacher swap where the pupils took part in a range of different reading activities.

Mr Tang, Headteacher, said: ‘Today was the first step in how we revolutionise reading and enhance the impact of our reading provision.

“We are already seeing increased attainment in reading from the redevelopment of how we teach guided reading.

“We look forward to seeing our reading results go from strength to strength.

Mr St Croix, English Lead at the School, hopes to see the children’s ‘love’ of reading will continue to grow.

He said: “Reading helps improve a child’s vocabulary, communication, and grammar skills.

“We know that good readers become good writers.

“During their time at West Wycombe, children will read and grow to love a variety of texts as they progress through the school.”
